AAA predicts 3.61 million passengers, almost 2% more than the previous year. It would beat pre-pandemic levels by 12%, although it is not a record—that occurred also in 2005. Popular locations including Chicago, New York, Orlando, Denver, and Seattle are served by the majority of those flights.

Other forms of travel have been increasing gradually since the outbreak. According to AAA, the number of travelers who will take trains, buses, or cruises is expected to rise by 8.5% to 2.08 million. Although the pre-pandemic statistics from 2018 and 2019 are already being surpassed, this category still falls short of the early 2000s record numbers, when more people chose buses and trains after 9/11.

The huge demand for Alaska cruises this season is evidence of the growing popularity of cruise travel. For the Memorial Day weekend, Fairbanks, Anchorage, and Juneau are popular domestic cruise destinations. In general, a record number of tourists are choosing cruises. A record 19 million Americans were expected to take cruises in 2025, according to a AAA prediction earlier this year.
